The Plantation Garden Norwich is known locally as ‘The Secret Garden’, but it is not difficult to find. The entrance is just past St. John’s Cathedral as you are leaving the city. Look for the brown sign. A wonderful Norfolk attraction. The Plantation Garden Norwich opening times are from 9 am to 6 pm (dusk in winter 4 pm) seven days a week, 365 days a year. The Plantation Garden Norwich ticket prices and Entrance is only £2 for a superb and informative visit.

The PGPT.
The Plantation Garden Preservation Trust (PGPT) is a registered charity (no. 1165433) and was formed in 1980. Since then, almost all of the work involved in maintaining and developing this Grade II registered site has been carried out by enthusiastic volunteers. Henry Trevor.
The Plantation Garden was originally a chalk quarry and was transformed by Henry Trevor from 1856 onwards to what it is today. In 1856, a prosperous upholsterer and cabinet maker living in Norwich, took a long lease on an industrial site just outside the old City walls. His name was Henry Trevor, and for the next forty years, he spent considerable sums of money and much effort transforming a chalk quarry into a magical garden. In many ways, Henry Trevor’s garden was typical of Victorian taste and technology. Henry Trevor built a fountain, terraces with balustrades, rockworks, a Palm House, and a rustic bridge. He also planted elaborate carpet beds, woodlands and shrubberies. He designed serpentine paths to conduct the visitor along circular routes, and he built and heated several greenhouses with boilers and hot water pipes. Read more…
Plantation Garden Guided Tours.
The Plantation Garden welcome groups by arrangement and have a small team of knowledgeable guides who provide tours of the garden for which we charge £3 per person, which includes admission. The Plantation Garden minimum charge is £35. Tours take approximately 50 – 60 minutes and provide a history of the garden, bringing you up to date with how the gardens are managed today. You are welcome to stay in the garden as long as you wish or to eat a packed lunch in the garden. The garden is run entirely by volunteers and all the proceeds go towards the garden’s upkeep, restoration and development. The Roman Catholic Cathedral Narthex, which is next door, and has a new, purpose built hospitality centre and is open for refreshments every day until 4pm., except Monday. If you are a large group, a light lunch may be booked in advance (contact 01603 724381 / [email protected]).
Plantation Garden Norwich Talks.
The Plantation Garden have an illustrated talk that covers the garden’s history and creation from the Victorian beginnings to the present day, and its maintenance by enthusiastic volunteers. The presentation also touches on the implications of restoring and managing a listed garden. We are happy to come and give this talk to organisations and clubs with an interest in the garden. The Plantation Garden charge is between £60 and £100, depending on the size of the organisation. All the money goes to the Plantation Garden Preservation Trust to enable us to continue our work.
Parking at The Plantation Garden Norwich.
We regret that we have no parking at the garden. There is paid for parking adjacent to the garden on Earlham Road. On Sundays and after 6.30 pm it is possible to park on Earlham Road or neighbouring residential roads or use the Norwich City car parks. Coaches are recommended to decant passengers on the Earlham Road and pick up at a pre-arranged time. If your driver is unfamiliar with the City please ensure he/she has checked coach parking with Norwich City Council.
The Plantation Garden Events
The Plantation Garden has seen and hosted many great events including: Fireworks parties, Heritage Open days, regular Music and Tea, Picture house Outdoor Screenings, Stuff of Dreams Theatre Company and Jazz Picnic to name a few.
Resources and Activities for Schools and Families.
The Plantation Garden provides a rich resource for learning for children of all ages. You will find in these pages activities that parents can do with their children as well as learning resources for schools. We welcome schools parties at any time of the year and you are invited to make arrangements for class visits by emailing [email protected].
