Welcome to High Lodge Forest Centre Thetford where you can enjoy so many different fun things to do from the forest segway to the Go Ape treetop challenge.  At the High Lodge Forest Centre near Thetford, we also have live music and live bands, pony rides, and you or your children can even have a birthday party catered for.  Whatever you enjoy you will be sure to find it here.  We are one of Norfolk’s great attractions and a fun place to do things with the kids. Every corner of High Lodge has something just waiting to be discovered, the more you walk around the forest, the more you’ll find. With play areas dotted around the forest, beautiful trails winding through rich wilderness and thrilling mountain biking opportunities, you’ll be itching to return! The new Heritage Trail is open at High Lodge, built with funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund to give everyone the opportunity to enjoy the forest.

Day visitors to High Lodge Visitor Centre, Thetford Forest, can now pre-pay in advance online for a full day visit up to seven days in advance, tickets are limited and available on a first to book basis. We have social distancing measures in place around the visitor hub and some of our play equipment is closed, however there is still plenty for you to see and do

High Lodge is famous for its free adventurous play facilities which are great for kids of any age looking for an adventure in the forest. From the Gruffallo, sand play area for toddlers, helter-skelter tunnel slide, to our den building area it is easy for everyone to spend a fun day out playing in the woods. Kids can make their own music in the Sound Trail, play on giant swings, seesaws and pyramids or climb up into the Treehouse to hide out in the canopy. Only their imagination will be the limit to the fun they can have out in the woods even if it is a rainy day and the only thing to do is get muddy splashing in puddles! Alternatively, try playing on the outdoor table tennis tables, or bring a football for a kick about in the main grass clearing.

We recommend that you book your adventure in advance, via their website. Please remember some facilities in the forest are still limited so check our web pages before you travel, to help you prepare for your visit. Go Ape Forest Segways are the best fun you can have off-road, on two eco-friendly wheels, without having to pedal!

You will receive training and get the chance to practice before you head out, with a safari guide, on our trails. You will use a mixture of twisty trails and wide open, straight tracks on this circular, hour long adventure. Go Ape pride themselves on enabling people with a disability to access their adventures – so give them a ring or call in at the cabin on site to discuss any needs that you or your group may have.

At least one of the following activities will be on site during weekends, school and bank holidays, subject to fair weather and demand: Bungee Trampolines – Jump as high as the tree tops and have a go at a somersault if you dare – suitable for adults and children! Land Zorbing – Hone your skills as you roll around a purpose built arena on your own or increase the energy and battle with a friend. High Lodge Thetford Forest Heritage Trail

High Lodge had funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, there is now a trail at High Lodge which provides access for everyone into the forest.  High Lodge Heritage Trail is a smooth surface suitable for all abilities and in all seasons, the trail is a circular 4.2km with short cuts at 1km and 3kms; benches or rest perches at 100m intervals and two shelters.  The High Lodge heritage trail was constructed as part of the ‘Trailing the Hidden Heritage of High Lodge’ Project which also included research by volunteers to reveal and interpret the four thousand years of landscape history beneath the trees.  Take the Heritage Trail to:  Explore the hidden history of High Lodge, Use the Touchscreen Monitor to see how High Lodge looked in the past, Listen to Stories of the Landscape at the Audio Panels, Find out about the wildlife and how the forest is managed for timber production in the two shelters.  The Heritage Trail is suitable for wheelchairs and mobility scooters.

Events at High Lodge 

High Lodge provides the perfect venue for a range of events.  If you are interested in holding an event here you will need to apply first so that we can ensure your event doesn’t clash with anything else happening in the forest such as forest operations work.  Once High Lodge know your needs we can advise you to make sure your event is a success.  Please contact us no later than eight weeks before your proposed event.
