Peter Beales Roses Attleborough Classic RosesÂ
Peter Beales Roses Attleborough and Classic Roses Attleborough is a wonderful attraction and place to enjoy beauty. Since the first Peter Beales roses were planted in 1983 the gardens have always been an integral part of the nursery, with visitors coming from all over the world to view our roses. Specialising in the preservation of old fashioned roses, our gardens provide a chance to see unique, historic, rare and contemporary roses growing in unison with other complementary plants. Some of the roses sourced were saved from extinction.  In the heart of the gardens you will find the ‘St Albans Walkway’. An impressive ironwork structure, that comprises of four arched walkways that join together at the centre of a magnificent six metre gazebo. The specifically chosen cultivars planted along the walkway are now maturing and the display grows more magnificent each year.
A few years ago, we at Peter Beales Roses Attleborough concentrated on two very special sections of the garden that were dedicated to both Peter and Joan Beales, our aim was to encapsulate Peter’s legacy. Many of the roses used within the planting schemes held a personal connection to them both, ranging from cultivars from Peter’s species collection to rare and unique roses they sourced and saved from extinction. Over the last year we at Peter Beales Roses have also spent considerable time extending our gardens to establish a wildlife area, planted with specially chosen rose and plant species designed to create the perfect habitat to attract insects and mammals.
At Peter Beales Roses Attleborough this wildlife haven has been created to inspire and educate visitors into the importance of wildlife and the benefits they bring to all gardens.  Entrance to our beautiful two acre display gardens is free and they are open to the public seven days a week throughout the year; conveniently located just half a mile off the A11 at Attleborough, they are a must see for any garden enthusiast. Come along and see for yourself the breathtaking beauty of the rose and we will make sure you receive a welcome second to none.

How to Plant RosesÂSOIL TYPES AND PREPARATION – It is wise to think well in advance about the soil you are going to be planting your rose into. To begin with it is good to know a little about your soil type. Is it sandy, chalky, clay or loam? On the whole roses love clay, enjoy a well-balanced loam, tolerate sandy conditions but will struggle in chalk so soils of the latter two types will require conditioning. It is also useful to know the pH of your soil. pH testing kits are readily available and are inexpensive, therefore a good investment.
Roses prefer a neutral to acid soil, a pH of around 6.5 but are very happy on the margins of this. A PH of 7 or below indicates an acid soil and will require the addition of garden lime or mushroom compost to help redress the balance. Likewise, an alkaline soil will require improvement. Well-rotted farmyard manure is ideal but not always readily available. Peat is also good but as a finite resource should be avoided if possible; there are some very good peat substitutes available instead. Soil should be well dug in advance and it is at this stage that any additions can be made. read more..
