Norfolk’s Best Golf Course And The Home of Bogey Golf
The Great Yarmouth and Caister Golf Club – In the beginning (1882), the Home of Bogey Golf (Great Yarmouth & Caister Golf Club), had only 12 holes, six out and six back. Later that year another hole (at the turn) was added. By the end of 1883, with enough money available, the club rented a club room over a local hostelry and commissioned the full 18 hole course to be laid out by the notable North Berwick professional, Tom Dunn. In the early days it was usual to favour golf holes with names and Great Yarmouth & Caister Golf Club was no different. Such names, some of them highly aristocratic and possibly pompous such as the ‘Nelson’, the ‘Wellington’ accompanied by the ‘Gate-hole’ , the ‘Bunker, the ‘Forth Bridge’ the ‘Short’ and the ‘Windmill’. Unfortunately and sadly these are now no longer used.

The course record in 1890 was recorded by that most famous of amateur golfers at the time Mr Horace G. Hutchinson with a medal score of 76, a prodigious feat when considering the terrain and equipment available back in the day. Many regular functions take place throughout the year such as themed evenings, quiz nights, sunday carvery, golf societies, wedding receptions, birthday parties & other events can be catered for subject to the club’s agreement. Function Room Hire – We are able to cater for functions up to 200 people. Our room and catering can accommodate meetings, special occasions and celebrations including: weddings and wedding receptions, christening, mothers day, valentines, charity nights, Christmas parties, New Years Eve parties, and much more. We have a patio area available that looks out over the 1st hole. This fantastic area is great for Barbeques. We have many catering options available for your event including sit down meals and buffets. We will be happy to discuss any requests and try our best to accommodate any requirements that you may have.
