Bircham Windmill Norfolk stands in the heart of Norfolk’s beautiful fields and is situated at Great Bircham near Kings Lynn. Bircham Windmill now looks as it did over 100 years ago. At that time over 300 mills ground corn for horse & cattle feed and bread-making in Norfolk and was a busy time. Today, very few windmills are left and Bircham Mill is considered one of the best still remaining active: it is the only windmill in working order in this area open to the public. Visitors to Bircham Windmill can climb the five floors up to the fan stage and, when possible, on windy days, visitors can also see the sails and the milling machinery turning. Bircham Windmill Meadow Camping
Bircham Windmill Meadow Camping Norfolk – Beautiful 8-acre meadow with young fruit tree plantations in West Norfolk. Ideal location for beaches, bird watching and attractions. Spacious meadow with big skies at night, views of Bircham Windmill and footpaths leading directly off the field. Portaloos and water onsite. Bircham village has a tearoom, bakery and tourist attraction at Bircham Windmill where you can get a full English breakfast every day from 9am, fresh bread or a cream tea. Visitors can climb to the top and make their own bread and in the village you will find a pub, shop and play ground.
Nearby are various beaches, from Hunstanton dunes to pinewoods and rolling waves at Wells. Lovely rural pubs, local shopping, Sandringham House and much more. Tents are not included. You will need to provide your own – No commercial vehicles allowed – Arrival between 2pm and 6pm – for later arrivals, please add a note to your booking advising us of arrival time – Please ensure you have access to a mobile phone in case of emergencies – Please respect others around you during your stay and keep noise to a minimum after dark.
We would appreciate you keeping your Bircham Windmill Meadow Camping pitch clean and tidy during your stay. Please take your rubbish home with you – Dogs are welcome free of charge – maximum of 2 dogs per pitch – Dogs must be kept on leads when walking the local trails – You don’t need to pick up your dog mess from the lanes – simply flick it off the pathways into the hedgrows – DO NOT walk on the local farmland, you MUST stick to the paths – if it’s not clear, please ask us for a map – 2 gas showers onsite for guests to use.
This site is a quiet site, it is for families and there are houses nearby – No late night parties, unnecessary noise or music – BBQ’s and Fire pits are allowed as long as they are off the ground – No Caravans or motorhomes, but trailer tents are allowed – A full refund (less non-refundable Cool Camping booking fee if booked via www.coolcamping.co.uk) will be issued if cancellation is made 14 days or more prior to the commencement of your stay. The campsite will also retain a 25% admin fee for any cancelled bookings – If cancellation is made less than 14 days in advance of your booking then no refunds will be issued – Please enter the site using the top gate along the straight road, please exit via the bottom corner gate – see these directions – The Meadow is a separate site to Bircham Mill, Mill facilities are not accessible to Meadow Campers – please use the facilities provided on the Meadow.
Bircham Windmill Camping – Motorhomes, Caravans & Tents all welcome – A campsite is available from Easter to the 30th of September. The prices are £25 non electric, £29 electric, £4 for extra child, £12.50 for extra adult. The pitch price includes entry into the tearooms, garden and play area and reduced entry to the mill. Bircham Windmill Shepherd’s Huts Prices
Bircham Windmill Norfolk Shepherd’s Huts. Enjoy a unique experience staying in one of our hand-crafted shepherd’s huts. Bircham Windmill is an idyllic location with bakery, tearooms and windmill attraction on your doorstep to enjoy throughout the day and perfectly peaceful in the evening, not even passing traffic. The huts are warm and cosy, there is seating inside or out, outdoor cooking area and our new, beautifully built shepherd’s hut shower unit completes the experience.
Both Romney and Ryeland Shepherd Huts have kettle, toaster, table and chairs, fridge, utensils, pull out double bed with sprung mattress and candle lamps for night time atmosphere. Prices during term time are £60 per night Sunday to Thursday and £65 per night Friday and Saturday. During School holidays Sunday to Thursday £65 per night and £70 per night Friday, Saturday and Bank Holiday Sundays.
Bring your own sleeping bags or hire linen, £10 extra – Use of Mill toilets. Ryeland sleeps two – Ryeland is £60 per night term time week nights and £65 Friday, Saturday. In school holidays it’s £65 for a week night and £70 Friday and Sauturday. Romney sleeps 2 adults and 1 child or one adult and 2 children – Romney is £65 term time week night and £70 Friday and Saturday. In school holidays it’s £70 for week nights and £75 for Friday and Saturday
Prices are for 2 adults. An extra child is £12 per night, 3 and under free if you provide your own bed and bedding. Linen is £10 per stay.These huts are sited in the grounds of the mill overlooking open fields. Beautiful, quirky, hand-built shepherd’s hut shower for use by guests staying in the shepherd’s huts or camping in the grounds at Bircham Windmill. Inside is deluxe shower, basin, mirror and heated towel rail – a little extra luxury during your stay. Dogs are £2 per night, maximum of 2 dogs – Please ensure you have access to a mobile phone in case of emergencies – Guests are welcome to bring their own bikes. Local information is available in the cottage and tearooms and all our staff are happy to advise on their favourite local pubs and attractions.

Bircham Windmill Museum
THe Bircham windmill Museum for history. Climb the five floors of this beautifully restored windmill, see all the machinery in place and experience the views from the top. There are information boards and audio boxes as you climb up and quizzes and things to find for the children. We have a model of Billy Howard – the last miller at Bircham Windmill, visitors can listen to his stories of time gone by. Bakery and Bread Making
Bircham Windmill Norfolk Bakery & Bread – The bakery adjoining the mill still has its original, coal-fired oven for you to see. The bakery worked up until the 1950s, 30 years after the mill had stopped and many people used to walk to the mill to collect their bread. We still bake in the original bakery and sell a wide range of bread and cakes. We also sell the flour that we use for our baking, and other speciality flours.
Bread baking experience – Come and bake bread at Bircham Windmill. Make & Bake – You can choose the quick Make & Bake option where we give you a piece of dough and you create whatever you like with it using our cutters, rolling pins and bread tins, we then bake it off for you to take home. This costs £3.10 and is suitable for anyone and everyone aged 2 to 100. Bake a loaf from scratch – Or you can bake a loaf from scratch. We provide all the ingredients and the inspiration and you can create your very own loaf. This costs £5.20. Please note, neither of the above activities is staff supervised. Baking runs every day 10am to 3pm, no need to book. For all other times, please phone first.
Bircham Windmill The Tea Rooms serves a selection of home made cakes, scones and light lunches, a full range of English and Italian coffees and teas and of course our famous Clotted Cream Teas. The Tea Rooms are separate from the Mill, so you can just come for tea. Entry is free. There is plenty on offer, including ploughman’s lunches, homemade cheese salad, quiche, pasties & sausage rolls, full English breakfast, teas, coffees, homemade cakes, scones and cream teas.
Bircham Windmill Gift Shop – We have a unique gift shop within the tearooms selling a selection of bespoke souvenirs as well as gifts for all ages, craft kits and ideas, baking items and wind and windmill gifts. We also sell the flour that we use for our baking, other speciality flours and our sheep cheeses.
